Physical Atlas and Survey Maps

I love the view from the aeroplane windows while flying.  Especially on a clear early morning..  When inspite of the altitude one can see everything down below on land.

The view reminds me of all the geography survey maps we learnt now how to draw the topography...the mountains, the water bodies, the meandering rivers the thinner tributaries and the parting distributaries,  the small towns, the roadways,  the dam,  the canal systems,  the patches of fields, etc.
Its amazing to imagine the story of how the cities have grown and how they become dense in the center and are scattered towards the peripheries. I love spotting things in the city..  Things like a stadium or a water tank or a railway/metro station.. Anything which seems to look like a landmark from the sky!

Now with Google satellite maps..  The subject seems to have lost the intrigue it had for me. Wonder if Vedika will ever learn and appreciate the physical atlas and learn to draw the thin curvy circles for the mountains.

Thankyou school and teachers to make me appreciate this subject and love it the way I do.
